1. Antiviral effectiveness and survival correlation of azvudine and nirmatrelvir/ritonavir in elderly severe patients with COVID-19: a retrospective real-world study


Following the approval of Arzuphin and Nirmariver/Levitonavir for the treatment of adults with COVID-19 at high risk of progressing to severe infection in China, Sun Jin's team conducted a retrospective study from December 2022 to January 2023. They treated 249 elderly patients with severe COVID-19 infection at the Second Medical Center of the People's Liberation Army General Hospital, including 128 recipients of Arzuphin, 66 recipients of Nirmariver/Levitonavir, and 55 recipients who did not receive antiviral treatment.

The retrospective study found that neither Nirmariver/Levitonavir nor Arzuphin demonstrated a survival benefit compared to patients who did not receive any antiviral drugs. The lack of clinical benefit may be attributed to potential biases in the study.

3.Surgical treatment for pelvic haemophilic pseudotumour: a retrospective analysis of 21 cases

Pelvic hemophilic pseudotumor (PHPT) is a rare condition that poses significant technical demands for PHPT procedures. Bian Yixin et al. conducted a retrospective analysis of 21 PHPT patients who underwent hospitalization and surgery at Peking Union Medical College Hospital and Southern Hospital in China between June 25, 2004, and July 18, 2023. The study findings demonstrate the feasibility and relative safety of surgical management for PHPT. It is recommended that symptomatic and progressive PHPT cases undergo early surgical intervention. However, it is worth noting that the extensive use of gelatin sponge during PHPT excision surgery may lead to severe complications, such as significant embolism, warranting careful consideration.
