The purposes of the Society for Biological Psychiatry (SIOP) are to promote excellence in research investigations into the nature, causes, mechanisms, and treatment of disorders of thought, emotion, and behavior; to foster the development of psychiatric researchers; to educate young scientists and clinicians in a broader understanding of the biological basis of mental illness; and to disseminate high-quality knowledge about the scientific basis of psychiatry.
