Founded in 1931, the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists (AANA) is the professional association representing more than 59,000 Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs) and Student Registered Nurse Anesthetists across the country.The AANA promulgates standards and guidelines for education and practice and advises private and governmental entities on nurse anesthetists and their practice.The AANA Foundation provides support for nurse anesthetists and their practice through educational and research grants to students, faculty and practicing CRNAs with educational and research grants to support the profession. More than 90 percent of the nation's nurse anesthetists are members of the AANA.
