Cosmetic Surgery and Reconstructive Surgery Cosmetic surgery is a unique medical discipline that focuses on improving a patient's appearance through surgical and medical techniques. Plastic surgery can be performed on the head, neck, and all parts of the body:It is an elective procedure because the treated area lacks aesthetic appeal but functions normally. Plastic surgery is defined as a surgical specialty dedicated to the reconstruction of facial and body defects due to congenital disorders, trauma, burns, and disease. The goal of plastic surgery is to correct dysfunctional areas of the body and is essentially reconstructive in nature.
